Art 2470 - Intro to 3D Modeling

Tutorial 1: Solar System

Tutorial - For our first lesson, we were introduced to Maya Autodesk with some general information about the program and how it works. Our next lesson was to model the Solar System using polygon primitives. After we created the initial shapes for the sun, the planets, and their moons we used keyframe to animate and rotate them on their own axis. Afterwards, we made the moons orbit the planets then keyframed the moons to orbit the planets. Lastly, we had the planets and their moons orbit the sun. We applied lamberts to the objects with base colors which is what the assign directed but, I added textures and bump maps to the planets to make them more realistic. For the sun, I just used a fractal texture then keyframed the surface at different internals to simulate the effects of the sun.

Project One: Props (Avengers: Infinite War)

Iron America Reactor Shield

Synopsis: Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet -- the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment.

Using the movie “Avengers: Infinity War” as an aesthetic guide, create a polygon model of a piece of furniture or other set fixtures found in:

a) Dr. Strange's Sanctum Sanctorium b) Thanos' hideout or c) Avengers headquarters for a new game under development.

Marvel is very tight lipped about this film but feel free to research.

Project Two: Room and Structure

Using the movie “Avengers: Infinity War” as an aesthetic guide, continue the development of the polygon props models by creating the surrounding environment and structure of the room.

- Incorporate the new modeling techniques:

NURBS

SubD

Deformers

Begin, the process of texturing the model using 2D and 3D textures.

For this portion of the project, I made a laboratory and a city.
